Kristin Johnson, Communications Coordinator

Growing up on a horse farm right here in Frederick, Maryland, Kristin developed a strong connection to the land and a love for fresh, locally grown foods from a young age. Her family always had fresh fruits and veggies on the table, whether from their own garden, or local produce stands and farmers' markets. She understood the importance of supporting local agriculture, and after several summers as a camp counselor and horseback riding instructor, she knew that youth and education would be an important part of her life as well.

Kristin earned a bachelor's degree in Secondary Education from Towson University. During her seven years teaching English at Urbana High School, Kristin recognized that addressing students' core needs—mental, emotional, and nutritional—is crucial for their academic success. Concerned about the lack of healthy food options for her students, she joined Farm to School Frederick to help improve nutrition standards in Frederick County Public Schools and increase access to locally grown foods for all families in the community.
