What is Community Supported Agriculture (CSA)?

Community Supported Agriculture or CSA is a direct partnership between farmers and community members. Customers sign up to purchase food shares before the start of the growing season. This enables farmers to purchase seeds and equipment as they prepare for the next seed to harvest cycle. Individuals or families that participate receive weekly or bi-weekly food share collections during the months of late spring – fall harvest. The farmers and community share in the success!

Participating in a CSA offers many great opportunities and benefits. You will directly support local growers supporting Frederick economic agriculture, have a direct connection to your food, and eat healthy nutrient dense foods. CSAs are a fabulous opportunity for kids to learn about where food comes from and understand the hard work that goes into growing food.

Many Frederick, MD farmers offer CSA programs. Pleasant Hill Produce in Walkersville offers flexible pricing options, customizable food options, and optional delivery. House in the Woods Farm in Adamstown provides 20-week customizable shares with u-pick harvest rows – the green bean hut is always popular! You can explore other CSA choices near you at Homegrown Frederick to find your best option.
